Effective Chiropractic Treatment for Frozen Shoulder
Shoulder pain and frozen shoulder often happens when the shoulder becomes irritated, tight, or stops moving properly. It can make simple things feel impossible such as lifting your arm, reaching behind your back, or even side sleeping. Common causes of frozen shoulder include rotator cuff strain, poor posture, overuse, or inflammation. The treatment usually involves gentle stretching, hands-on therapy, and exercises to restore movement and to reduce pain. At New Motion Health Centre, our chiropractors provide effective, non-invasive treatment for all types of shoulder pain with hands on therapy. We also combine physiotherapy and acupuncture when it is needed to speed up recovery.

Understanding Shoulder Pain In Simple Terms
Shoulder pain can feel different for everyone. Most patients describe their shoulder pain in the following ways:
- “My shoulder feels stuck.”
- “It’s painful when I lift my arm.”
- “I can’t reach behind my back.”
- “My shoulder is stiff in the morning.”
- “Sharp pain when I move certain ways.”
- “I can’t sleep on this side.”
- “I can’t raise my arm above shoulder height.”
These symptoms are very common and often match conditions like frozen shoulder, rotator cuff irritation, or shoulder tendon inflammation.
What Causes Shoulder Pain and Stiffness?
Here are the most common everyday causes.
1. Overuse or Repetitive Strain
Lifting and carrying heavy items or even office work can irritate the shoulder over time.
2. Poor Posture
Rounded shoulders can cause pinching, weakness, and stiffness.
3. Rotator Cuff Irritation
The small muscles that support your shoulder become tight or inflamed.
4. Frozen Shoulder (Very Stiff Shoulder)
The shoulder joint becomes extremely tight, making it hard to move your arm in any direction.
5. Tendon or Muscle Irritation
Small strains from daily activities can lead to pain that doesn’t go away.
6. Not Moving the Shoulder Enough
After injury or surgery, the shoulder can “freeze up.”

Three Stages of Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder develops slowly in three phases:
1. Freezing Stage (Painful Stage)
- Shoulder becomes very painful
- Movement decreases gradually
- Lasts 2–9 months
2. Frozen Stage (Stiff Stage)
- Pain decreases
- Stiffness becomes the main issue
- Range of motion severely limited
- Lasts 4–12 months
3. Thawing Stage (Recovery Stage)
- Mobility slowly returns
- Lasts 6 months to 2 years
Who Gets Frozen Shoulder?
Higher risk if you:
- Are age 40–70
- Have diabetes (very common)
- Had a previous shoulder injury
- Had shoulder immobility for weeks (sling, surgery)
- Have thyroid issues
